We went to Rocomamas Hazeldean on Friday the 07/09/2018 with my husband and our 2 small kids
(5 years and 1 year 6 months). We placed an order and waited for over 45 min for the food, it was clear the place was busy so we waited while having drinks. After some time a man by the name of Peter Zoho who is the manager went to the table behind us and checked on the family which happened to be white and assured then of their order that had taken long also, our table was in between, in the middle of 2 white families, so after Peter checked on the family behind us he walked right past our table and proceeded to the table right in front of us which happened to be a white family as well and checked on them and apologised for the long wait for the order. My family and I were obviously offended by this, we told the waitress who then went and told the manager, he then came back to our table very angry and started yelling at me and said he was under staffed and under a lot of preassure,i asked him why he could not extend the same courtesy of telling us the same thing he told the other tables behind and in front of us,he raised his voice pointing his finger directly at me and caused a scene, I decided not to argue with him as he was clearly upsetting my kids who were already hungry and had been waiting close to an hour for the order to come, I felt he could have just apologised or given an excuse just to get the whole thing out of the way. He walked back and the owner was standing at the door where I could see both of them, he said something to the owner then used his hand to say that we can leave he does not care, the owner the nodded then proceeded to our table to hear what had happened which I found very pointless as it was clear he had already taken Peter’s side before even hearing our side of the story. He then apologised in a very dismissive way, he even said we should just go on and enjoy our evening, like it was not a bog deal regardless of how embarrassed we were after the encounter we had just had with Peter, his dimena and attitude about the whole thing was very offensive and belittling, we explained to him that we were not going to stay and we wanted the bill to pay for our drinks because we cannot proceed and eat the food after the manager had caused a scene and shouted at me in front of my kids, we were not comfortable being there after such an embarrassment and after the way the owner handled the whole thing because to begin with it was clear he did not see anything wrong with Peter’s behaviour and the treatment he gave us hence he nodded his head when Peter pointed with his hand at us and to show us the door that we could leave.
No one took responsibility for what had happened and it was very disturbing that not even the owner cared enough to remedy what his manager had done. It was clear that he was not interested and just wanted us to stay and proceed to wait for the order we had waited over an hour for which we did not even complain for. Much as we did not want to make this a racial issue but it was very clear Peter thought the other white customers were more important than my black little family hence he could walk right past us and go to the table right next to us and behind us to check on them. My family and I stay in Equestria and go to Rocomamas Hazeldean almost every Friday to take our kids for dinner as it is close. Even the waiters know us there because we are regulars, but to have experienced such a terrible service and embarrassment in front of my kids and to have exposed them to such a horrible scene is plain insulting and degrading. The owner could have showed or pretended to care that we had such a painful experience but he was just not interested. After he had asked us to stay we told the waitress we were leaving and asked her to bring the bill, the owner came back and said he would take care of the bill for the drinks with a terrible attitude then walked away while we were still seating there. I cannot begin to explain how horrible our customer service experience was for that day and I had hoped my kids had not been there to witness the whole thing esp when Peter started shouting and pointing his finger at me telling me I must not mess with him when I asked if he walked past our table cause we are black.
I am writing this hoping people can understand that it is not ok to belittle another person esp because of their race, we are all human and are equal and we are all paying customers therefore it is uncalled for, for a certain race to get preferential treatment and for the rest of us to be treated like nothing but trash and to even get worse treatment for even being vocal about it. if there is one place I am never going back to and not taking my kids to is is Rocomamas,i would rather stay away from such a place that is run by people who treat other human being like less human…

I was very disappointed with the rocomama in Melrose Arch. Firstly our food took more than 45 minutes to arrive and when it did it was stone cold. Further my husband and I have gastro after eating there. The service of the Melrose arch and sandton city are terrible and I will not eat there in the future and their service and food quality is pathetic.
